الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
لا قوِىّ أقوى مِمَّن قَوِىَ على نفسِهِ فمَلَكَها و لا عاجزَ أعجزُ مِمّن أهمَلَ نفسَه فأهلَكَها.
Imam Ali (as):
No one is stronger than he who has prevailed over his own self and thus, has it under control, as there is no one weaker than he who, neglecting his own self, has ruined it.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
مَا ظَفِرَ مَنْ ظَفِرَ الْإِثْمُ بِهِ وَ الْغَالِبُ بِالشَّرِّ مَغْلُوب .
Imam Ali (as):
He who is overpowered by sins is not victorious, and he who secures victory through evil means is [in fact] defeated.

مَن كانَ يؤمنُ باللّهِ و اليومِ الآخِرِ فلا يَقومُ مكانَ رِيبةٍ .

He who believes in Allah and the Last Day must not sit in a suspicious place.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
لا تُرَخِّصُوا لأنفسِكُم فَتُدهِنوا ، و لا تُدهِنُوا في الحقِّ فَتَخسَرُوا .
Imam Ali (as):
Do not allow yourselves to become emboldened [against Allah] lest you [become careless in religious matters] and compromise [the truth], and do not compromise the truth, lest you suffer clear loss.

الإمام الكاظم (عليه السَّلام):
قَالَ عِيسى عليه السلام: إِنَّ صَاحِبَ الشَّرِّ يُعْدِي، وَ قَرِينَ السَّوْءِ يُرْدِي، فَانْظُرْ مَنْ تُقَارِنُ.
Imam al-Kazim (as):
The Prophet Jesus (as) said, 'Verily an immoral friend passes on his evil traits [to his associates] and a corrupt companion brings about destruction, so be careful with whom you socialize.'

الإمام الرّضا (عليه السَّلام ):
كُلَّمَا أَحْدَثَ الْعِبَادُ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ مَا لَمْ يَكُونُوا يَعْمَلُونَ، أَحْدَثَ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ مِنَ الْبَلَاءِ مَا لَمْ يَكُونُوا يَعْرِفُونَ.
Imam al-Reḍa (as):
Whenever people come up with new sins that they did not use to commit, Allah strikes them with afflictions they did not previously know.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):
إنَّ أخوَفَ ما أخافُ على اُمَّتي مِن بَعدي هذهِ المَكاسِبُ الحَرامُ ، و الشَّهوَةُ الخَفيَّةُ ، و الرِّبا.
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Verily the most dreadful things that I fear for my community after me are: these unlawful earnings, covert carnal desire [i.e. lust] and usury.

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):
ما مِن شيءٍ أفسَدَ للقَلبِ مِن خَطيئةٍ ، إنَّ القَلبَ لَيُواقِعُ الخَطيئةَ ، فما تَزالُ بهِ حتّى تَغلِبَ علَيهِ فَيَصيرَ أعلاهُ أسفَلَهُ.
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Nothing is more corruptive to the heart than sin, for the heart commits sin and continues to do so until it engulfs the whole heart and turns it upside down.

أبعَدُ ما يكونُ العَبدُ مِن اللّهِ عَزَّ و جلَّ إذا لم يَهُمَّهُ إلاّ بَطنُهُ و فَرجُهُ .
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
The farthest a servant can be from Allah, Mighty and Exalted, is when the only things that matter to him are his stomach and his private parts.
