Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Two rapacious wolves hunting a herd that has been left without a shepherd are not nearly as dangerous as the love of wealth and high ranks are to the faith of a believer.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
In an intimate conversation that Allah had with Prophet Moses (AS), He said: "Do not envy anyone merely because people are pleased with him until you know that Allah is also pleased with him, and do not envy anyone for being obeyed by people, because people’s obedience to him and their adherence to him in falsehood is a source of destruction for him and for those adhering to him.

Imam Ali (as):
One who appoints himself as a leader of the people must first begin by educating himself before educating others; he must discipline through his own behaviour, before disciplining with his tongue. And The one who teaches and disciplines himself is more worthy of esteem than the one who teaches and disciplines people.

Imam Ali (as):
The truly noble one is he who has been ennobled by his knowledge, and true chiefdom belongs to he who is wary of his duty to Allah, his Lord.
