ما أقبَحَ الفَقرَ بَعدَ الغِنى، و أقبَحَ الخَطيئَةَ بَعدَ المَسكَنَةِ ! وَ أقبَحُ مِن ذلِكَ العابِدُ للّهِِ ثُمّ يَدَعُ عِبادَتَهُ .

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

How awful it is to become poor after being rich, to be drawn to wrong after destitution, but worse than that is when the worshipper of Allah abandons His worship.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):

عنه عليه السلام : إنّ العَبدَ المُؤمنَ الفَقيرَ لَيَقولُ : يا رَبِّ ، ارزُقْني حتّى أفعَلَ كذا و كذا مِن البِرِّ و وُجوهِ الخَيرِ ، فإذا عَلِمَ اللّهُ عَزَّ و جلَّ ذلكَ مِنهُ بصِدقِ نِيَّةٍ كَتَبَ اللّهُ لَهُ مِن الأجرِ مِثلَ ما يَكتُبُ لَهُ لَو عَمِلَهُ ، إنَّ اللّهَ واسِعٌ كَريمٌ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

A poor believer says to God: My Lord, Provide for me so that I may do such and such good deed. So if Allah knows that he is saying this in all sincerity, He writes down for him the same reward that He would write if he actually did that good deed. Allah is indeed all-bounteous, and generous.

طُوبى لِلمَساكينِ بالصَّبرِ ، و هُمُ الّذينَ يَرَونَ مَلَكوتَ السَّماواتِ و الأرضِ.

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

Blessed are the needy for their patience, and they are the ones who will see the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):

إِنَّ اللَّهَ- عَزَّ و جَلَّ- فَرَضَ عَلى‏ أَئِمَّةِ الْعَدْلِ أَنْ يُقَدِّرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ بِضَعَفَةِ النَّاسِ كَيْلَا يَتَبَيَّغَ‏ بِالْفَقِيرِ فَقْرُهُ.

Imam Ali (as):

Allah, most High, has made it obligatory upon the leaders of justice to equate themselves with the weak ones from among people, so that the poor are not intimidated as a result of their poverty.

لَا غِنى‏ أَخْصَبُ مِنَ الْعَقْلِ، وَ لَا فَقْرَ أَحَطُّ مِنَ الْحُمْقِ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

There is no wealth more productive than the intellect and no poverty lower than stupidity.

مَيَاسِيرُ شِيعَتِنَا أُمَنَاؤُنَا عَلَی مَحَاوِيجِهِمْ فَاحْفَظُونَا فِيهِمْ يَحْفَظْكُمُ اللَّهُ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

The rich ones from among our Shi'a are our trustees regarding the poor ones among them, so observe our right regarding them [be charitable towards them] and Allah will protect you.

الإمام الكاظم (عليه السَّلام):

إِنَّ اللَّهَ- عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- يَقُولُ: إِنِّي لَمْ أُغْنِ الْغَنِيَّ لِكَرَامَةٍ بِهِ عَلَيَّ، وَ لَمْ أُفْقِرِ الْفَقِيرَ لِهَوَانٍ بِهِ عَلَيَّ، وَ هُوَ مِمَّا ابْتَلَيْتُ بِهِ الْأَغْنِيَاءَ بِالْفُقَرَاءِ، وَ لَوْ لَا الْفُقَرَاءُ لَمْ يَسْتَوْجِبِ الْأَغْنِيَاءُ الْجَنَّةَ.

Imam al-Kazim (as):

Allah, Mighty and Exalted, says: 'I did not made some people rich because they hold a dignified position in My eyes, nor did I make some others poor because they hold an insignificant position in My eyes, rather this was a plan to try the rich ones through the poor ones. Had it not been for the poor ones, the rich ones would not have deserved Paradise.

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):

إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ، أَمَرَ اللَّهُ- تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالى‏- مُنَادِياً يُنَادِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ: أَيْنَ الْفُقَرَاءُ؟ فَيَقُومُ عُنُقٌ‏ مِنَ النَّاسِ كَثِيرٌ، فَيَقُولُ: عِبَادِي، فَيَقُولُونَ: لَبَّيْكَ رَبَّنَا، فَيَقُولُ: إِنِّي لَمْ أُفْقِرْكُمْ‏ لِهَوَانٍ بِكُمْ عَلَيَّ، وَ لكِنِّي‏ إِنَّمَا اخْتَرْتُكُمْ لِمِثْلِ هذَا الْيَوْمِ، تَصَفَّحُوا وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ، فَمَنْ صَنَعَ إِلَيْكُمْ مَعْرُوفاً لَمْ يَصْنَعْهُ إِلَّا فِيَّ، فَكَافُوهُ عَنِّي بِالْجَنَّةِ.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

On the day of resurrection, Allah will command a caller to call out before Him: 'Where are the poor ones?' Then a large number of people will stand. Allah will say: 'O My servants!' They will say: 'Yes, our Lord.' Allah will say: 'I did not make you poor because you held an insignificant position in My eyes, rather I chose you for a day like this. Search among people, and find those who did good to you for no reason other than My sake and reward them, on My behalf, with Paradise.'
