وَ أَمَّا حَقُّ وَلَدِكَ فَأَنْ تَعْلَم‏ …ِ وَ أَنَّكَ مَسْئُولٌ عَمَّا وُلِّيتَهُ مِنْ حُسْنِ الْأَدَبِ وَ الدَّلَالَةِ عَلَى رَبِّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ الْمَعُونَةِ له عَلَى طَاعَتِهِ فَاعْمَلْ فِي أَمْرِهِ عَمَلَ مَنْ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ مُثَابٌ عَلَى الْإِحْسَانِ إِلَيْهِ مُعَاقَبٌ عَلَى الْإِسَاءَةِ إِلَيْه .‏

Imam al-Sajjad (as):

The right of your child is that you should know that you are responsible for what has been assigned to you regarding him, that is teaching him good manners, guiding him towards his Lord, and helping him in His obedience, so deal with him like the one who knows that he will be rewarded for doing good to him, and punished for mistreating him.

أَكْرِمُوا أَوْلَادَكُمْ وَ أَحْسِنُوا آدَابَهُمْ يُغْفَرْ لَكُمْ .

The Prophet Muhammad (S):

Honour your children and refine their manners and your sins will be forgiven.

عنه عليه السلام : إنّ خَيْرَ ما وَرَّثَ الآباءُ لأبنائهِمُ الأدبُ لا المالُ ، فإنّ المالَ يَذهبُ و الأدبَ يَبقى.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Verily the best inheritance parents bequeath their progeny are good manners, not wealth, for wealth goes away but good manners stay.

اِستَرضِعْ لِولدِكَ بِلَبَنِ الحِسانِ ، و إيّاكَ و القِباحَ ؛ فإنّ اللَّبَنَ قد يُعدِي .

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

Get beautiful wet-nurses to suckle your child and keep away from ugly ones, for verily the milk has an effect [on the child].

اُنظُرُوا مَن تُرضِعُ أولادَكُم؛ فإنّ الوَلَدَ يَشِبُّ علَيهِ .

Imam Ali (as):

Take into account who it is that suckles your children, for verily this is what a child grows on.

إنّا نأمُرُ صِبيانَنا بِالصِّيامِ إذا كانوا بَني سَبعِ سِنينَ بما أطاقُوا مِن صِيامِ اليَومِ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

We (i.e. Ahl al-Bayt) enjoin our children to fast when they reach the age of seven as much as they can bear it.

البَنونَ نَعيمٌ و البَناتُ حَسَناتٌ ، و اللّهُ يَسألُ عَنِ النَّعيمِ و يُثيبُ علَى الحَسَناتِ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):

Boys are bounties and girls are merits, and Allah asks about bounties but rewards for merits.
