Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as): A good deed performed by one in secret is recorded down as a secret action. If he speaks about it [to others], the previous record is erased and it is recorded instead as a public action. If he mentions it to others for the second time, then, the previous record is erased and it is recorded instead as showing off.
