Imam Ali (as):
Imam Al (AS) said in his sermon: "I seek refuge in Allah from the sins which hasten one’s death. Then Abdullah ibn al-Kawa’ stood up and asked: 'O Commander of the faithful, are there such sins which hasten one’s death? To which the Imam (as) replied: "Yes indeed, [it is] cutting off ties with one’s kin."

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
When Imam al-Sadiq (AS) was asked about a group of people who commit sins and ,at the same time, express hopes [in God's mercy and forgiveness], and remain thus until death overtakes them, said: "These are people who swing back and forth between their desires. They are lying and are not really hopeful, for the one who hopes for something seeks it, and the one who fears something flees from it."

The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Four qualities, when possessed by a person, cause Allah to transform his evil deeds into good deeds, even if he is sinful from head to toe. They are: honesty, modesty, good character and thankfulness.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a) said: "Be on your Guard against petty sins for they will not be forgiven." I asked the Imam: "What are the petty sins?" to which he replied: "They are the sins which, [due to their pettiness] a man commits and then says: "I would be blessed if this was the only sin I committed."

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Beware of the sins which seem to be insignificant, for they too have someone who will prosecute their perpetrator [and hold them to account].

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
When you think of doing something wrong, just do not do it, for verily it may be that Allah inquires about a servant and finds him committing wrong upon which He says: "By My Might and Glory, I will never forgive you after that."

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
All sins are severe [in requital], but the severest of them are those that result in the growth of [polluted] flesh and blood.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
The Commander of the Faithful (as) would frequently say in his sermons, 'O people! Preserve your religion, for the bad deed of a religious person is better than the good deed of a religion-less person, because the bad deed of a religious person can be forgiven but the good deed of a religion-less person is not accepted.'

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Indeed the servant commits a sin, and as a result he is deprived of the Night Prayer. And verily the evil deed pierces into and affects the one who committed it faster than a sharp knife can pierce into meat.
