رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):
مَن مَدَحَ سُلطانا جائرا وتَخَفَّفَ وتَضَعضَعَ لَهُ طَمَعا فيهِ كانَ قَرينَهُ إلَى النّارِ.
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
Whoever praises a tyrannical ruler, succumbs to him or humbles himself in front of him in a bid to secure his pleasure, will accompany him to the Fire.

إذا مُدِحَ الفاجِرُ اهتَزَّ العَرشُ وغَضِبَ الرَّبُّ.
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
When an immoral person is praised, the Throne trembles and the Lord is angered.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
مَن مَدَحَكَ بما لَيسَ فيكَ فَهُو ذَمٌّ لَكَ إن عَقَلتَ.
Imam Ali (as):
Whoever praises you with something you do not have then it is a disparagement for you, if you are sane [know].

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
أَكْبَرُ (أَكْثَرُ) الشَّرِّ فِي الِاسْتِخْفَافِ بِمُولِمِ عِظَةِ الْمُشْفِقِ النَّاصِحِ وَ الِاغْتِرَارِ بِحَلَاوَةِ ثَنَاءِ الْمَادِحِ الْكَاشِحِ.
Imam Ali (as):
The greatest evil lies in slighting the harsh, but sincere advice of a compassionate man and instead, being deceived by the praise of a flatterer who harbors enmity towards you.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
مَنْ شَكَرَكَ مِنْ غَيْرِ صَنِيعَةٍ فَلَا تَأْمَنْ ذَمَّهُ مِنْ غَيْرِ قَطِيعَةٍ

If someone praises you without anything worthy of praise on your part, them do not feel immune from his disparagement without doing anything wrong.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
قالَ لُقمانُ لابنِهِ: للحاسِدِ ثَلاثُ عَلاماتٍ: يَغْتابُ إذا غابَ، وَ يَتَملّقُ إذا شَهِدَ، وَ يَشْمَتُ بِالمُصيبَةِ.

Luqman said to his son, There are three signs for the jealous person: He backbites someone in his absence, flatters him in his presence, and rejoices at the misery of others.
