الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
مَا الْـمُجَاهِدُ الشَّهِيدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ بِأَعْظَمَ أَجْراً مِمَّنْ قَدَرَ فَعَفَّ، لَكَادَ الْعَفِيفُ أَنْ يَكُونَ مَلَكاً مِنَ الْمَلاَئِكَةِ
Imam Ali (as):
The fighter who is martyred in Allah's way has no greater reward than the one who is able to sate himself but remains chaste. The chaste person may well become one of the angels.

[فَرَضَ اللَّهُ] تَرْكَ الزِّنَى تَحْصِيناً لِلنَّسَبِ وَ تَرْكَ اللِّوَاطِ تَكْثِيراً لِلنَّسْلِ
Imam Ali (as):
Allah has prescribed... the abandonment of adultery in order to safeguard descent; and the abandonment of sodomy to multiply offspring.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
لا قوِىّ أقوى مِمَّن قَوِىَ على نفسِهِ فمَلَكَها و لا عاجزَ أعجزُ مِمّن أهمَلَ نفسَه فأهلَكَها.
Imam Ali (as):
No one is stronger than he who has prevailed over his own self and thus, has it under control, as there is no one weaker than he who, neglecting his own self, has ruined it.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):
إِنَّ الشَّدِيدَ لَيْسَ مَنْ غَلَبَ النَّاسَ وَ لَكِنَّ الشَّدِيدَ مَنْ غَلَبَ نَفْسَه .
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
A strong person is not someone who overcomes others, rather a strong person is someone who overcomes his own self.

قَدْرُ الرَّجُلِ عَلَى قَدْرِ هِمَّتِه … ِ وَ عِفَّتُهُ عَلَى قَدْرِ غَيْرَتِه .

قَدْ أَلْزَمَ نَفْسَهُ الْعَدْلَ فَكَانَ أَوَّلُ عَدْلِهِ نَفْيَ الْهَوَى عَنْ نَفْسِه .

The most beloved servant of God is the one who... has obligated himself to maintain justice, and the first instance of his justice is negation of base desires from his soul.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
الْفَضَائِلُ أَرْبَعَةُ أَجْنَاسٍ أَحَدُهَا الْحِكْمَةُ وَ قِوَامُهَا فِي الْفِكْرَةِ وَ الثَّانِي الْعِفَّةُ وَ قِوَامُهَا فِي الشَّهْوَةِ وَ الثَّالِثُ الْقُوَّةُ وَ قِوَامُهَا فِي الْغَضَبِ وَ الرَّابِعُ الْعَدْلُ وَ قِوَامُهُ فِي اعْتِدَالِ قُوَى النَّفْسِ.
Imam Ali (as):
There are four types of merits: the first is wisdom, and its basis is thinking. The second is chastity, and its basis is desire. The third is power, and its basis is anger. The fourth is justice, and its basis is moderation in the faculties of the self.

اللّهُمّ ارزُقْ محمّدا و آلَ محمّدٍ و مَن أحَبَّ محمّدا و آلَ محمّدٍ ، العَفافَ و الكَفافَ ، و ارزُقْ مَن أبغَضَ محمّدا و آلَ محمّدٍ المالَ و الوَلَدَ .
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
O Allah provide moderation and sufficiency to Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and to those who love Muhammad and his family, and provide abundance of wealth and progeny to those who harbour hatred for Muhammad and his family.
