Divine proof, or hujjat, is how God holds His servants accountable and seeks answers. Those who act contrary to it will be condemned.
Reason is an inner proof that illuminates the path and informs us of right and wrong. Prophets and imams are divine proofs. Divine scriptures are proofs from God, as are pure and pious individuals.
Those who lack reason and are unaware of their actions have no obligation and will not be held responsible for them. According to the Quran, God will never punish a people until He sends a messenger among them.
Through the sending of prophets, the revelation of scriptures, and the instilling of reason within humans, God has completed His proof against them. Let's act in a way that will prevent us from being condemned in the divine court on the Day of Judgment.
- Manifest Proof (حُجَّةً ظاهِرَةً): This includes the prophets, messengers, and Imams, who serve as visible representatives of God’s will and guidance. They bring messages of truth, ethics, and divine instruction to humanity, acting as clear signs of God’s existence and authority.
- Inward Proof (حُجَّةً باطِنَةً): This refers to human intellect and reason. The innate ability to think, reflect, and discern right from wrong is a gift from God, allowing individuals to understand truth and morality independently. This intellectual capacity serves as an internal guide to recognize and accept the truths revealed through the manifest proofs.
- Seek Knowledge and Understanding: Believers are encouraged to deepen their understanding of faith by studying the teachings of prophets and Imams while also using their intellect to explore and reflect on these teachings.
- Balance Between Revelation and Reason: Recognize that both divine revelation and human intellect are essential for a well-rounded understanding of spirituality. Engage in discussions and reflections that integrate both dimensions.
- Embrace Critical Thinking: Use your God-given intellect to question, analyze, and seek answers. This approach strengthens one’s faith and helps dispel doubts or misconceptions.
- Recognize the Role of Guidance: Acknowledge the importance of prophets and Imams as guides in your spiritual journey. Their teachings can provide clarity and direction in navigating life’s challenges.
