How do We Choose Our Friends?

Nowadays, the problem of having bad friends is a big challenge for the youth; because, the influence of friendship is very deep even much more than family relationship.
In this regard the Holy Qur'an says:

Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one as a friend.” 1

Islam expresses characteristics of a Good friend as following:

1. Faith in God

O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies, extending to them affection while they have disbelieved in what came to you of the truth” 2

2. Truthfulness

O you, who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true.” 3

3. Good-tempered

And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend”
