Individual Ethics » Virtues » Intellect » The Central Role of the Intellect

The Prophet (s) asked a group of people who were praising a man, ‘Tell me about his intellect?’ to which they replied, ‘O Prophet of Allah, we are informing you about his earnestness in worship and his various good deeds, and you are asking us about his intellect?!’ So he replied, ‘Verily the stupid person suffers as a result of his stupidity more than the immoral person suffers from his licentiousness. The servants will rise up in rank in the Hereafter and will achieve great proximity to their Lord in proportion to their intellects.’
