Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

مَن عَذَرَ ظالِما بظُلمِهِ سَلَّطَ اللّهُ علَيهِ مَن يَظلِمُهُ، فإن دَعا لَم يُستَجَبْ لَهُ ، و لَم يَأجُرْهُ اللّهُ على ظُلامَتِهِ .

أَحْسَنُ مِنَ الصِّدْقِ قَائِلُهُ، وَ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ فَاعِلُهُ.

Better than truthfulness is the one who speaks the truth, and better than the good deed is the one who performs it.

لا تُكَرِّهوا إلى أنفُسِكُمُ العِبادَةَ .

Do not make worship loathsome to yourselves [by forcing it upon yourselves].

اللَّحْمُ يُنْبِتُ اللَّحْمَ وَ مَنْ تَرَكَ اللَّحْمَ أَرْبَعِينَ صَبَاحاً سَاءَ خُلْقُهُ.

Eating meat produces flesh [on the body] and the one who avoids meat for forty [consecutive] days will become ill-natured.

مِنَ التَّوَاضُعِ أَنْ تَرْضى‏ بِالْمَجْلِسِ دُونَ الْمَجْلِسِ‏، وَ أَنْ تُسَلِّمَ عَلى‏ مَنْ تَلْقى‏، وَ أَنْ تَتْرُكَ الْمِرَاءَ وَ إِنْ كُنْتَ مُحِقّاً، وَ لَاتُحِبَّ أَنْ تُحْمَدَ عَلَى التَّقْوى.
