Imam Ali (as):
Beware of avarice, for it brings about hatred, tarnishes one's virtues and spreads one's vices.

The similitude of the one who covets this world is as the caterpillar: the more silk it spins around itself, the harder it becomes to get out of the silk, until it dies of grief. ;

Imam Ali (as):
Verily the ascetic's abstention does not diminish that which Allah has apportioned for him even if he abstains, just as the covetous person's greed in the immediate glittering bounties of the world does not increase his share even if he covets. The one who is truly in loss is he who is deprived of his share of the Hereafter.

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):

Do not let your soul covet for more than what is sufficient for maintenance, otherwise it will dominate you through immoderation.

One of the biggest consequences of having a greedy disposition is that one who is afflicted with such a spiritual and painful disease is ready to agree to any form of humiliation so that he can get his hands on what he wants and since such a person is never satisfied and always craves for more, there will be no end to his degradation and disgrace and consequently, people will always have a low opinion of him and will never take him seriously. He will also never get to enjoy his life for he is always focused on what he wants instead of focusing on what he has, enjoying them and feeling grateful and satisfied for having such blessings. May God Almighty protect us from such misery. ;
