الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
مَا صَافَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله رَجُلًا قَطُّ، فَنَزَعَ‏ يَدَهُ‏ حَتّى‏ يَكُونَ‏ هُوَ الَّذِي يَنْزِعُ‏ يَدَهُ‏ مِنْهُ‏.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
When the Prophet (s) used to shake someone’s hand, he would never be the first to let go, until the other person let go of his hand.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

كَفَى بِالْمَرْءِ إِثْماً أَنْ يُضَيِّعَ مَنْ يَعُولُ.

It is enough of a sin for a man to bring deprivation to his dependents [by not attending to them].

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

ما يَمنَعُ الرّجُلَ مِنكُم أن يَبَرَّ والِدَيهِ حَيَّينِ أو مَيِّتَينِ : يُصَلِّي عَنهُما ، و يَتَصَدَّقُ عَنهُما ، و يَحِجُّ عَنهُما ، و يَصومُ عَنهُما ، فيكونُ الّذي صَنَعَ لَهُما ، و لَهُ مِثلُ ذلكَ ، فَيَزيدُهُ اللّهُ عَزَّ و جلَّ ببِرِّهِ و صِلَتِهِ خَيرا كَثيرا ؟!

مَنْ رَضِيَ مِنَ اللَّهِ بِالْيَسِيرِ مِنَ الْمَعَاشِ‏، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ‏ بِالْيَسِيرِ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ.

Whoever accepts from Allah the little livelihood, Allah will accept from him the little in actions.

حَقٌّ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ يَعْرِفُنَا أَنْ يَعْرِضَ عَمَلَهُ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَ لَيْلَةٍ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ فَيَكُونَ مُحَاسِبَ نَفْسِهِ فَإِنْ رَأَى حَسَنَةً اسْتَزَادَ مِنْهَا وَ إِنْ رَأَى سَيِّئَةً اسْتَغْفَرَ مِنْهَا لِئَلَّا يَخْزَى يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ .

. الْعُجْبُ صَارِفٌ عَنْ طَلَبِ الْعِلْمِ دَاعٍ إِلَى الغَمْطِ وَ الْجَهْل‏

Self-admiration hinders one from seeking knowledge, calling him to holding others in contempt and to ignorance.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

إِنَّ الْعَالِمَ إِذَا لَمْ يَعْمَلْ بِعِلْمِهِ زَلَّتْ مَوْعِظَتُهُ عَنِ الْقُلُوبِ كَمَا يَزِلُّ الْمَطَرُ عَنِ الصَّفَا.

When the knowledgeable man does not act upon his knowledge, his exhortation slips away from the hearts like the rain slips off a flat rock.
