O Hisham, Allah’s saying, ‘Is the reward for good [anything] but good?’ applies to both the believer and the disbeliever, and to the righteous and the corrupt. The one to whom a favor has been done must requite the favor, and the requital is not realized through doing exactly the same favor that has been done to him, rather it should be with something better, for if he does exactly the same favor that has been done to him, then the good doer has the advantage of initiating the favor.

Imam al-Sajjad (as):
Allah will ask one of His servants on the Day of Resurrection, ‘Did you thank x?’, and the servant will reply, ‘No, but I thanked You instead, O Lord.’ Allah will reply, 'You have not thanked Me because you did not thank him.'

Imam Ali (as):
Abstain from harboring desires and wishes as they takes away the enjoyment of God's blessings and make them seem insignificant to you and keep you from being grateful.

Imam Ali (as):
Indeed in every blessing there is a right of thanksgiving to God; whoever fulfills that right, God will increase it for him and whoever fails to give thanks stands in the danger of losing that blessing.

Imam Ali (as):
No one will ever be able to continually enjoy blessings like they do through thankfulness, and nothing adorns blessings like giving generously.
