الإمام الكاظم (عليه السَّلام):
عَلَيكَ بِالجِدِّ، لا تُخرِجَنَّ نَفسَكَ مِن حَدِّ التَّقصيرِ في عِبادَةِ اللّهِ عَزَّ و جلَّ و طاعَتِهِ؛ فإنَّ اللّهَ لا يُعبَدُ حَقَّ عِبادَتِهِ .
Imam al-Kazim (as):
You must adopt earnestness, and always assume yourself to be falling short in God's worship and His obedience, for verily God is never worshipped as He aught to be worshipped.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):
إنّ التَّواضُعَ يَزيدُ صاحِبَهُ رِفعَةً ، فتَواضَعُوا يَرفَعْكُمُ اللّهُ .
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
One's humbleness increases his rank, so humble yourselves and Allah will raise you.

إنَّ مِن التَّواضُعِ أن يَجلِسَ الرّجُلُ دُونَ شَرَفِهِ .

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
يَا مُوسى، أَ تَدْرِي لِمَ اصْطَفَيْتُكَ بِكَلَامِي دُونَ خَلْقِي؟ قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ، وَ لِمَ ذَاكَ؟ قَالَ: فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالى إِلَيْهِ: يَا مُوسى، إِنِّي قَلَّبْتُ عِبَادِي ظَهْراً لِبَطْنٍ، فَلَمْ أَجِدْ فِيهِمْ أَحَداً أَذَلَّ لِي نَفْساً مِنْكَ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Allah revealed to Moses saying: "O Moses, do you know why I singled you out from among My creatures to speak to?" He said: "O Lord, why did You do so?" Allah revealed to him: "O Moses, I probed into the hearts of My servants thoroughly and I did not find among them anyone who was more humble before me than you."

الإمام السّجاد (عليه السَّلام):
عَجَبا للمُتَكبِّرِ الفَخورِ الذي كانَ بالأمسِ نُطفَةً ثُمّ هُو غَدا جِيفَةٌ!
Imam al-Sajjad (as):
It is surprising to see an arrogant and proud person who yesterday was but a sperm and tomorrow will be but a carcass.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
فيما أوحَى اللّهُ عَزَّوجلَّ إلى داودَ عليه السلام: يا داودُ، كما أنَّ أقرَبَ الناسِ مِن اللّهِ المُتَواضِعُونَ كذلكَ أبعَدُ الناسِ مِن اللّهِ المُتَكبِّرُونَ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Within what Allah revealed unto David (AS): 'O David, just as the closest people to Allah are the humble ones, so the farthest away from Allah are the proud ones.
