Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

مَنْ زَهِدَ فِي الدُّنْيَا أَثْبَتَ اللَّهُ الْحِكْمَةَ فِي قَلْبِهِ وَ أَنْطَقَ بِهَا لِسَانَهُ وَ بَصَّرَهُ عُيُوبَ الدُّنْيَا دَاءَهَا وَ دَوَاءَهَا وَ أَخْرَجَهُ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا سَالِماً إِلَى دَارِ السَّلَامِ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

يَنْبَغِي لِلْمُؤْمِنِ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِيهِ ثَمَانِي‏ خِصَالٍ: وَقُوراً عِنْدَ الْهَزَاهِزِ، صَبُوراً عِنْدَ الْبَلَاءِ، شَكُوراً عِنْدَ الرَّخَاءِ، قَانِعاً بِمَا رَزَقَهُ اللَّهُ، لَايَظْلِمُ الْأَعْدَاءَ، وَ لَا يَتَحَامَلُ‏ لِلْأَصْدِقَاءِ، بَدَنُهُ مِنْهُ فِي تَعَبٍ، وَ النَّاسُ مِنْهُ فِي رَاحَةٍ. إِنَّ الْعِلْمَ خَلِيلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ، وَ الْحِلْمَ وَزِيرُهُ، وَ الْعَقْلَ‏ أَمِيرُ جُنُودِهِ، وَ الرِّفْقَ أَخُوهُ، وَ الْبِرَّ وَالِدُهُ.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

كانَ رسولُ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله يُنفِقُ في الطِّيبِ أكثَرَ مِمّا يُنفِقُ في الطَّعامِ.

The Prophet (s) used to spend more on perfume than he did on food.

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْإِيمَانِ، فَقَالَ‏: شَهَادَةُ أَنْ لَاإِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَ الْإِقْرَارُ بِمَا جَاءَ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ، وَ مَا اسْتَقَرَّ فِي الْقُلُوبِ مِنَ التَّصْدِيقِ بِذلِكَ. قَالَ: قُلْتُ: الشَّهَادَةُ أَ لَيْسَتْ‏ عَمَلًا؟ قَالَ: «بَلى‏». قُلْتُ: الْعَمَلُ‏ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، الْإِيمَانُ لَايَكُونُ إِلَّا بِعَمَلٍ، وَ الْعَمَلُ مِنْهُ، وَ لَا يَثْبُتُ الْإِيمَانُ إِلَّا بِعَمَلٍ.

I asked Imam al-Sadiq (as) about faith. He said: It is testifying that there is no god but Allah, attesting to whatever has come from Allah ...

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as)

مَن رَقَّ وَجهُهُ رَقَّ عِلمُهُ .

He who is too timid [to learn or ask] will have little knowledge.
