Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
I asked Imam al-Sadiq (as) about the verse of Allah: "[Adhere to] the fitrah of Allah upon which He has created [all] people." He replied: He created them upon [faith in] Allah's divine Unity. [Tawhid].

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
A man came to Imam al-Baqir (as) and asked, ‘O abu Ja’far, who do you worship?’ The Imam replied, ‘I worship Allah, the Most High.’ He then asked, ‘Have you seen Him?’ The Imam then said, ‘Eyes do not see Him by looking with the sights; it is the hearts that behold Him with the realities of faith. He is not known by analogy or through the senses nor is He to be compared with people. He is described and known through His signs [manifest in His creation]. He does not do injustice in His judgment. Thus is Allah; there is no god except Him.'

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
Once I asked (Imam) Muhammad al-Baqir (as) about the Oneness of Allah and whether I can think of Him (the creator) as a thing.’ The Imam replied, ‘Yes, but not as a thing that can be well understood and clearly defined within limits. What may become a subject of your thoughts is different from Him. Nothing resembles Him and the thoughts and imaginations cannot reach Him. How could the imaginations reach Him when He is different from what can become the subject of thoughts and is different from whatever can be perceived in one’s thoughts? You can think of Him as a thing that cannot be well understood and clearly defined (under certain limits).’

Imam al-Kazim (as):
One who seeks to gain sustenance for himself and his family in a lawful manner is as the one who fights in the way of Allah. But if he is unable to do so he may incur debt, trusting in Allah and His Prophet, in order to ensure provisions for his family.
