Contentment is one of the fundamental teachings of our religion. It is a valuable quality because a content person has a rich and tranquil spirit and is not burdened by lack or poverty. In contrast, wasting blessings and being extravagant are considered major sins, and the result of such ingratitude is the loss of divine blessings. Avoiding extremes and following the path of moderation frees one from the pitfalls of excess and deficiency, thus benefiting individuals and societies in every way.
According to tradition, gratitude and appreciation are the most important factors for the persistence of blessings, while ingratitude and wastefulness are the most effective factors for their decline.
Today, many resources that could benefit people in need are being wasted. Some people, due to their abundance of wealth, do not know how to spend or utilize their possessions. Others, due to poverty, are deprived of resources and live in suffering. Is this stark difference in wealth and the resulting class discrimination pleasing to God? Let us appreciate the divine blessings so that we may become beloved by God.
