الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):
زَكَاةُ الْعِلْمِ أَنْ تُعَلِّمَهُ عِبَادَ اللَّهِ.
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
The Zakat [alms-tax] of knowledge is to teach it to the servants of Allah.

الإمام محمد الباقر (عليه السَّلام):
وَجَدنا في كتابِ رسولِ اللّهِ صلى الله عليه و آله ... إذا مَنَعُوا الزَّكاةَ مَنَعَتِ الأرضُ بَرَكَتَها مِنَ الزَّرعِ و الثِّمارِ و المَعادِنِ كُلِّها .
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as):
Imam al-Baqir (as) narrated, We found the following written in the book of the Prophet (s): ‘...When people refuse to pay the alms-tax [Zakat], the earth withholds all its yield of plants, fruits and minerals.’

الإمام الكاظم (عليه السَّلام):
إنّ اللّهَ عزّ و جلّ وَضَعَ الزَّكاةَ قُوتا للفُقَراءِ و تَوفِيرا لِأموالِكُم .
Imam al-Kazim (as):
Verily Allah has fixed the alms-tax [Zakat] as a provision for the poor and a source of increase in your wealth.

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
شَرُّ الْمَالِ مَا لَمْ يُنْفَقْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ مِنْهُ وَ لَمْ تُؤَدَّ زَكَاتُهُ.
Imam Ali (as):
The worst wealth is that which none of it is spent in the way of God and its due alms-tax [Zakat] is not paid.

الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
السُّرّاقُ ثلاثةٌ: مانعُ الزَّكاةِ، ومُستَحِلُّ مُهُورِ النِّساءِ، وكذلكَ مَنِ استَدانَ ولَم يَنوِ قَضاءَهُ.
Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
There are three types of people that are considered thieves: the one who refuses to pay the alms-tax, the one who spends his wife's dowry unlawfully, and the one who takes a loan with no intention to repay it.

رسول الله (صلی الله علیه و آله):
لا تَزالُ امّتي بِخَيْرٍ ما تَحابُّوا وأدَّوا الأمانَةَ، واجْتَنَبوا الحَرامَ، وقَرَوُا الضَّيْفَ، وأقامُوا الصَّلاةَ، وآتَوا الزَّكاةَ.
The Prophet Muhammad (S):
My nation will continue to thrive as long as they love each other, deliver the trust, refrain from the forbidden, respect the guest, maintain the prayer, and pay the alms-tax (zakat).

الإمام علي (عليه السَّلام):
أمّا ما فَرَضَهُ اللّهُ سبحانَهُ في كتابِهِ فدَعائمُ الإسلامِ، وهِي خَمسُ دَعائمَ. وعلى هذهِ الفَرائضِ الخَمسِ بُنِيَ الإسلامُ، فَجَعَلَ سبحانَهُ لِكُلِّ فَريضَةٍ مِن هذهِ الفَرائضِ أربَعةَ حُدودٍ لايَسَعُ أحَدا جَهلُها، أوَّلُها: الصلاةُ، ثُمّ الزكاةُ، ثُمّ الصيامُ، ثُمّ الحَجُّ، ثُمّ الوَلايَةُ، وهِي خاتِمَتُها والجامِعَةُ لِجَميعِ الفَرائضِ والسُّنَنِ.
Imam Ali (as):
As for what Allah has made obligatory in His Book, they are the pillars of Islam, and they are five pillars. It is on these five pillars that Islam was founded, and He Almighty allocated for each of these obligatory duties four boundaries in which everyone must know. The first of them is prayer, then alms-tax (zakat), then fasting, then Hajj pilgrimage, then guardianship (wilayah), in which the latter is the seal of them and it encompasses all obligatory and recommended acts.
