There are two groups of traditions when it comes to poverty and richness, one praising poverty and disparaging richness and the other describing poverty as something that brings man closer to disbelief and considering wealth to be the best aid for building one's Hereafter. So it must be noted here that when poverty is praised it is referring to a kind of poverty that makes man feel closer to and more in need of God and saves him from heedlessness, and the disparaged wealth is one that gradually takes man to the pit of heedlessness making him overstep all bounds, as God says in the Quran: 'No! [But] indeed, man transgresses, when he finds himself free from want.'
