الإمام جعفر الصادق (عليه السَّلام ):
أقرَبُ ما يكونُ العَبدُ مِن اللّهِ جلَّ و عَزَّ إذا خَفَّ بَطنُهُ ، و أبغَضُ ما يكونُ العَبدُ إلَى اللّهِ عَزَّ و جلَّ إذا امتَلَأَ بَطنُهُ .

Imam Ja‘far al-Ṣadiq (as):
The nearest a servant can ever be to Allah is when his stomach is light, and the most hated a servant can ever be by Allah is when his stomach is filled [with food].

مَنْ عَلِمَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَاهُ وَ يَسْمَعُ مَا يَقُولُ‏ وَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يَعْمَلُهُ‏ مِنْ خَيْرٍ أَوْ شَرٍّ، فَيَحْجُزُهُ ذلِكَ عَنِ الْقَبِيحِ فَذَلِكَ اَلَّذِي خٰافَ مَقٰامَ رَبِّهِ وَ نَهَى اَلنَّفْسَ عَنِ اَلْهَوىٰ.

إنّهُ كانَ يقولُ عندَ المُصيبَةِ: الحَمدُ للّهِ الذي لَم يَجعَلْ مُصِيبَتي في دِيني، و الحَمدُ للّهِ الذي لو شاءَ أن تكونَ مُصيبَتي أعظَمَ مِمّا كانت (كانَت)، و الحَمدُ للّهِ على الأمرِ الذي شاءَ أن يكونَ و كانَ.

اكتُبُوا؛ فإنّكُم لا تَحفَظُونَ ‏حتّى تَكتُبوا.

Write down [what you learn] for you will not memorize until you write.
