Imam Ali (as)

إذا فَسَدَتِ النِّيَّةُ وَقَعَتِ البَلِيَّةُ.

When an intention is corrupt calamity befalls.

Imam Ali (as)

جُودُ الرّجُلِ يُحَبّبُهُ إلى أضْدادِهِ، وَ بُخْلُهُ يُبَغِّضُهُ إلى أولادِهِ.

Man s open-handedness endears him to his opponents, and his stinginess makes him hated even by his children.

Imam Ali (as)

أفْضَلُ الجِهادِ مَن جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ الّتي بينَ جَنْبَيهِ.

The best jihad is that of one who combats his own self that is between his two sides.

Imam Ali (as)

خُلطَةُ أبناءِ الدُّنيا تَشينُ الدِّينَ، وَ تُضعِفُ اليَقينَ

Mixing with the seekers of this world brings shame on religion and weakens certainty.

Imam Ali (as)

مَن لَم يُنْجِهِ الصَّبرُ أهلَكَهُ الجَزَعُ.

He who is not given deliverance through patience is destroyed by anxiety.

Imam Ali (as)

الأملُ كالسَّرابِ، يَغِرُّ مَنْ رَآهُ، ويُخْلِفُ مَن رَجاهُ.

[False] Expectation is like the mirage – it deceives those who view it and leaves behind those who place their hope on it.
